Fishing competition

All fishers must register and meet with officials at the events marquee on the Denham foreshroe prior to fishing and after 12pm on Friday 19th May. Each person will receive prize categories, rules and other relevant information which our friendly team will discuss with entrants personally.

Weigh ins are daily between 4:30pm-6:30pm at the events marquee with the first being Saturday 20th May.

More information is made available in the below documents.

2023 Prize Categories

Catch & Return Prize Categories are documented further below.

Prize categories

First, second and third prizes are awarded to the heaviest Catch & Eat fish species category, as well as for the longest fish for any the Catch & Release prize species. As estuary cod has a maximum size limit, prizes are awarded to those fish closest to the mystery weights.

In 2023 thanks to grant funding provided by Recfishwest, and to continue to promote and support catch & release fishing practices the event will see boats loaned the same set of tournament scales and catch bags which will be used to record their fish catch statistics. These items will be used specifically for our Catch & Release fishing category as well as support our new fishing prize category - Catch & Return. Similar to Catch & Release however this category will see organisers announce per fishing competition day a Catch & Eat fish specie that can not be weighed in, but must have all its measurements and weights documented in a photo and the fish returned to the water as they enter their catch in the Catch & Return competition for that day.

Registration form

Keen to participate in this week of fun, then come along to the events marquee on the opening day in May, pay your entry fee and complete the registration form, obtain all the rules, prize categories including the weeks Catch & Return prize categories and receive a goodies bag etc.

If you like being organised you are welcome to download the attached entry form and present it to event organisers at the registration marquee at the event opening.

Fishing rules

As in every competition there are always rules that must be adhered to. The event organisers reserve the right to disqualify fish and entrants if they are deemed to be breaking the event rules.

Daily Catch & Return fish will be identified at event registration day on Friday 19th May 2023 as event orgaisers will check weather conditions prior to announcing fish. For example there is no point advising Red Emperor is the daily Catch & Return fish on a windy day because no boats will be heading out to deeper waters in those conditions etc.
